There are days when the New Forest encourages everyone to slow down. Late October is one of those times.
The beech and oak canopy is turning gold, the bracken is deep copper and fallen leaves gather along the quieter roads. This photograph of our BMW i7 was taken in the middle of that landscape, with the road disappearing beneath the trees.
The light changes quickly beneath the canopy. One stretch can be bright with autumn colour while the next is already in deep shade. For a local family business, scenes like this are part of why we value working in and around the Forest.
It is a lovely setting, but autumn in the Forest is not only about the view. Wet leaves, low sunlight, earlier darkness and animals on the road all affect how a journey should be planned and driven.
Local knowledge matters
Plus Chauffeurs is a family-run chauffeur company based in Southampton and serving the New Forest and wider Hampshire area. Our journeys regularly begin or end in places such as Lymington, Brockenhurst, Lyndhurst, Ringwood, New Milton, Milford on Sea and Barton on Sea, as well as hotels and private addresses throughout the Forest.
Local knowledge is not simply knowing the shortest route. It means allowing sensible time for narrow lanes, gated entrances, seasonal traffic and animals that may be standing on or beside the road.
The speed limit on the Forest's unfenced roads is no more than 40 mph, and it is lower in some places. Conditions may call for an even slower approach. For our chauffeurs, arriving calmly and safely matters more than trying to recover a few minutes on the road.
Why the BMW i7 works well here
The BMW i7 luxury saloon is well suited to longer journeys from the New Forest. Its electric drive is quiet, the cabin gives passengers space to settle in and the ride remains comfortable on the mixture of village roads and faster routes beyond the Forest.
It also produces no tailpipe emissions while being driven. That does not make any journey impact-free, but it gives clients an electric option without compromising the comfort expected from a chauffeur-driven saloon.
Chauffeur travel from the New Forest
Most journeys from the Forest have a practical purpose and need to run to a timetable.
Our airport transfer service covers journeys to Heathrow, Gatwick, Bournemouth and Southampton airports. An early collection requires realistic timing, particularly when the first part of the journey is along unlit Forest roads.
We also provide cruise transfers to Southampton's cruise terminals and Portsmouth International Port. Passenger numbers, luggage and the ship's schedule all need to be confirmed before the appropriate vehicle is allocated.
For clients travelling to meetings or spending the day away from the area, our business chauffeur service covers London and destinations across the South and wider UK.
Not every journey involves an airport, port or office. A wait-and-return booking can also make lunch, dinner or a special occasion easier. One recent example involved taking regular clients to Chewton Glen for an anniversary lunch,Chewton Glen for an anniversary lunch, waiting nearby and bringing them home afterwards.
Planning the right journey
The best vehicle is determined by the journey rather than the photograph. When requesting a quote, tell us the number of passengers, luggage, collection address, destination and required arrival time. Flight numbers, cruise details, additional stops and mobility requirements should also be included where relevant.
That information allows the office to recommend the right vehicle and build a realistic plan before the chauffeur sets off.
Frequently asked questions
Do you provide chauffeur services throughout the New Forest?
Yes. Plus Chauffeurs provides pre-booked journeys from towns, villages, hotels and private addresses across the New Forest, subject to availability.
Can you provide an early-morning airport transfer?
Yes. Early collections can be arranged. Booking ahead gives the team the best opportunity to allocate the appropriate chauffeur and vehicle and to plan the departure time properly.
Which vehicle should I request?
That depends on the number of passengers, luggage and the journey. A saloon may suit one or two passengers travelling with ordinary luggage, while a Mercedes V-Class may be more appropriate for families, groups or additional cases. The team will advise before confirming the booking.
A good time to be here
Autumn in the New Forest is brief. Within a few weeks the leaves will be down and the same road will look entirely different. That is part of the pleasure of working in the Forest: familiar routes change with the season, and each season asks something different of the driver.
